Yellow Class Summer Challenges

I hope you have a lovely summer and have lots of fun with your family. Over the Summer I would like you to continue to read lots of books. I have sent home the book list for Green Class and a book poster, try and read as many books as you can and write the name on the poster and colour the book in. I have also sent a Summer Activity challenge sheet, see how many you can do!

Learning Log 28th June 2019

This week we have been practicing recognising and matching number words and numerals. For homework I would like you to continue to practice this by cutting out the cards playing snap or matching pairs with someone in your family.  Please ask you grown up to write a comment below or add an observation on tapestry.

Yellow Class Learning Log 21st June 2019

For homework this week I would like you to practise spelling the high frequency words that are on your list ready to use them in your writing next week. Remember some of the words might be red words so you will need to remember how to spell these as you cannot sound them out.

This week we have planted beans. For homework I would like you to create a poster about what the bean needs to grow into a tall healthy beanstalk.

Over half term I would like you to go on a bug hunt around your garden and then create a poster about the bugs that you find. We will then use these to compare the bugs that you find in your garden and the bugs that we find at Forest School. Please also continue to use letter join to practise your handwriting.

Over the next few weeks we will learning about how to keep ourselves healthy. For homework I would like you to create a poster all about the things that you do to keep yourself healthy. You can draw and label pictures or write sentences.

Over the last few weeks we have been learning all about zoo animals. For homework I would like you to make a poster about your favourite zoo animal. You can print or draw a picture of your favourite animal and then write 3 facts about it. Please complete this on paper so that we can make a display of them in the classroom.

As we have celebrated World Book Day this week, for homework I would like you to share the story that you have chosen with a grown up and complete the book review. Below are some questions that your grown up could ask you about the book.

Before reading the book:

  • Can you point to the title? or What is this? (Pointing to the title)
  • What do you think this story will be about? What might happen in the story
  • Who is in the story?

During the reading of the book:

  • What is happening here?
  • What is ______ doing?
  • What might happen   next?
  • How do you think the story might end?
  • Is __________ friendly/ mean/ nice…?
  • What does ______ mean? (To check understanding of a word)


At the end of the book:

  • Did you like this book? Why?
  • What was your favourite part? Why?
  • Which character did you like the best? Why?
  • Why did that character do … (give a situation/ event from the story)?
  • What happened in the story?
