Please continue to look in your child’s diary for their individual words to learn. Some children are now remembering some of these words really well so thank you for your support. The activities which you are doing with your child at home are consolidating what we have been doing at school and we are seeing increased confidence when reading and a positive influence on spelling .

For this week please concentrate on turning the words into a hide and seek game around your house and garden. You could let your child know if they are getting ‘hotter’ or ‘colder’ as they move closer to a word. When they find it they can try and read it and put it into a meaningful sentence.

Following on from the wonderful effort and hardwork ALL children put into our sounds in the grounds work this week, I would like you to do some more at home. The children had to sit and stay silent in different areas around the school. They had to listen and record all the sounds they could hear. We will be sorting that data into groups (voices, animal noises, environmental sounds and other noises). We will then construct bar charts and pictograms based on the results of our data.

For your learning log I would like you to collect some sound data from home. Find different places to sit around your home and listen…record what you hear. Try to chose 3 different places eg: garden, living room, kitchen. Record your findings in your learning log.

Only if you have time, can you sort it into groups and record the number of different sounds.

To be returned to school for Wednesday 15th May.

What another busy week! Well done to everyone in Green class this week, especially Millie and Jasmine, who are really settling in well

Year 2.

I would like the year 2 children to have a break from their SATs workbooks (unless you really want to keep going). We have been trying hard to build better sentences during class time. We have been thinking about different sentence openers, a range of connectives and WOW words. I have produced a sheet with a selection of openers and connectives and I would like you to build at least 8 sentences using a variety of these.

Here is one we came up with in class; All of a sudden, Millie’s legs grew bigger and bigger and bigger until she was as tall as the Eiffel tower.

The sheet will come home in bookbags.

Year 1.

Funny faces!

Find a mirror at home, look at your face, pull a funny face and now describe how your face looks to your mum or dad. Then, have a go at writing at least 5 sentences describing different features of your face. If you want to take a photo to put with your writing too, I would like to see it!

I have given each child a sheet with some sentence openers to help.

Enjoy your extra day at home on Monday…..but keep reading

We will be going down to forest school on Tuesday afternoon (7th May), so please bring forest school clothes in a bag.

Year 2

Sentence building. Use the different sentence openers and connectives to create interesting sentences. Try to build 8 different sentences. You can either write them out in your learning log or type them up on the computer.

For example:

As time went on Millie’s legs grew bigger and bigger and bigger until, she was as tall as the Eiffel tower.

I felt as if I could run all day however, the creamy chocolate cakes in the shop window stopped me.

Sentence openers

Connectives

I discovered…

Additionally…

several months later…

Year 1.

Funny faces. Look at your face in a mirror, pull a funny face, take a picture and write out 5 sentences describing how your face looks.

Here are some sentence starters to get you going:

1. My face looks like…………………………………………………………………………………………

………………………………………………………………………………………….

………………………………………………………………………………………….

2. Despite my lips being pink, they now look …………………………………………

…………………………………………………………………………………………..

…………………………………………………………………………………………..

3. Before I pulled a funny face my nose was lovely and smooth, however now it is….

…………………………………………………………………………………………..

………………………………………………………………………………………….

…………………………………………………………………………………………..

Can you now think of 2 more sentences of your own and start them in different ways? Have a go…

4. ……………………………………………………………………………………….

…………………………………………………………………………………………

………………………………………………………………………………………….
