Green Class Spring 2013 Newsletter
Green Class Newsletter Spring term 2013.
Welcome back to a new year. I do hope you are all now well after the illnesses we had towards the end of term and over Christmas. This term is quite a short term and we will be doing a lot of things.
The children chose the topic of PEOPLE for this half term. We have been looking at famous people from Worcestershire this week, including Edward Elgar, Stanley Baldwin and Sir Rowland Hill. The children have also entered a competition to design a new flag for Worcestershire. Over the weeks we will be looking at family history and selecting a number of other famous people from around the world and from the past. If you have any stories, pictures or famous people in your family please let us know.
We are very lucky to have regular parent helpers who come in and hear the children read. If you can help in anyway Miss Jones and I would be extremely grateful.
During this half term in Literacy we will be exploring a range of text types linked to our topic. We have looked at writing lists and using commas and capital letters for proper nouns already. The children will be writing simple autobiographies and biographies, as well as story writing. Phonics and group reading happen daily as your support with reading and weekly spelling words really does help to push progress along.
In maths we have looked at 2-d and 3-d shapes and symmetry this week. We will be covering a lot of number work throughout the rest of the term including; place value, odd and even, ordinal numbers, addition and subtraction of 2/3 digit numbers, position and movement, angles, estimating and measuring weight. At home it would be fantastic if you could help your child to learn the times tables. Learn the songs, play tables games, use posters and go onto Education City through the www.networcs.net site using your child’s log in details.
Forest school dates: Tuesday 15th January, Tuesday 29th January, and Tuesday 12th February. I will let you know the dates for the 2nd half of term nearer the time. On these days please ensure your child comes to school in their forest school clothes with their uniform in a bag.
PE: Monday pm and Friday am. Please could your child come to school in their outdoor PE kit every Friday morning, so that we can start PE straight away before moving onto phonics. Make sure they are wearing joggers, a warm jumper, warm socks and sturdy trainers for this outdoor PE session.
If you have any questions please do come in and ask.
